~ QUALITY CHILD CARE ~
Discipline:
We use time-out and loss of privileges for discipline. For example, if a child hurts another child, he will be placed in time out away from the other children for up to 10 minutes, depending on the infraction. If a child is repeatedly misbehaving, he may lose the right to go outside with the other children, or the privilege of playing with play dough or making snack. We do not take away food or toileting privileges and we do not use corporal punishment.
Necessary Forms:
The following forms need to be filled out in order for your child to be in care with us.
- Child Intake Form
- Financial agreement
- Travel and Activity permission form
- Child’s health record
- Medication release – where needed
- Emergency Medical Authorization
- Current Immunizations
- Copy of insurance cards and your driver’s license
- Medical directive – Where needed
- Food program enrollment forms
We renew these forms once per year in May/June.
Cleanliness/Sanitation:
Children are by nature very messy. We try very hard to keep your child clean but food, paint, dirt and other yucky stuff can get on them. Here are our guidelines for cleaning and sanitizing.
- we wash the children’s hands before each meal and after
- we clean the toys 3 times per week with a steamer and immediately if a child is ill
- we steam the exer-saucers and pack-n-plays nightly
- we follow the state food program guidelines for cleaning dishes and surfaces
- we wash our hands after every diaper change and use gloves when a child is ill
- we use separate bedding for each child and wash it 2 times per week
- we vacuum daily
- we change a child’s clothes if there is any diaper leak
Health/Safety:
We take the following precautions for safety and health:
- all cleaners are in upper cabinets
- all outlets are covered
- the toys are checked with a choke tube
- games with small pieces are in a closet
- our trash is covered
- we use a reverse osmosis water filtration system
- we do not have poisonous plants
- we do not feed children under 2 nut products
- our playground equipment is anchored and checked once per month
- our facility has been checked for lead and radon
- we keep an up to date medical kit on hand
- all meat is cooked well done
- we do not store open baby food – we make all baby food fresh
- we do not re-use bottles until sterilized
- we do emergency drills once per month
- Infants are placed on their back to sleep
Inclement Weather:
If the weather is bad enough that the West Des Moines schools are closed, we will be closed as well. I will not ask staff to drive with their children in a blizzard. You will need to watch for school closings.
Learning Activities:
We provide learning activities for the children. During the school year learning activities are done every day. During the summer they are done 3 times per week. The children are allowed to use computer games for up to one hour per day. They are allowed electronic games only with parent’s consent and only after age 6. We do not allow Internet usage. All full time children age 3 and older are taken to the preschool room for our preschool program free of charge
